If you plan on staying in a hotel the night before your cruise, this deal can save you a nice chunk of change. The area around the port (San Pedro) offers a number of hotels within just 1-3 miles of the ships. This includes some right on the waterfront and some that offer a shuttle service to get guests to the cruise terminal. You can sail from Long Beach to Mexico or Hawaii on cruises that typically range from three to 14 nights and are offered year-round. The city’s cruise terminal is easily accessible to guests transferring from the airport or arriving by car. One of the largest cities within Los Angeles, Long Beach is a dominant maritime center for the United States.
Long Beach Cruise Terminal Information
Catalina Island has long been a favorite spot to escape the bustle of LA. With its scenic hiking trails, pretty sailboat-studded bays, and quaint, Mediterranean charm, it’s the perfect destination to soak up the sunshine and slip into a vacation state of mind. Sail there on a three-night cruise from Los Angeles so you can break away from the daily grind and chase island vibes instead. For many people, they don’t have to worry about a ride to the port.
Parking at the Long Beach Cruise Terminal
Keep in mind that the smog tends to be thickest during the summer months, and the autumn and winter can be a bit nippy due to the Santa Ana winds. The Carnival Radiance, Panorama and Miracle are homeported in Long Beach for 2023. The new Carnival Firenze, which was previously a Costa ship, will be sailing out of Long Beach in 2024. Carnival sails a few ships out of the Long Beach Terminal, to destinations in Mexico, Hawaii and Alaska.

Day 4: Long Beach (Los Angeles)
Walk past the Pachacamac Ruins in Lima, and uncover treasures of the Inca Empire. Or ascend Corcovado Mountain in Brazil and visit one of the new Seven Wonders of the World, the Christ the Redeemer statue. Looff's Lite-A-Line Amusements (2500 Long Beach Blvd.) is a quirky and nostalgic mix of arcade games, pinball and casino games. Next door is the ShoreLine Aquatic Park, a beautiful greenspace on Rainbow Bay, featuring the Lions Lighthouse. The 10-story structure was built and dedicated to creating awareness about ending blindness.

Higher rates will apply if going a longer distance or during peak times. If you’re unfamiliar with the area, these cities are both part of the greater Los Angeles area and are about 25 miles south of downtown LA. If flying in for your cruise, expect the trip from Los Angeles International (LAX) to take at least 30 minutes and possibly more due to traffic. From the star-studded Hollywood Boulevard to the celebrity-rich Beverly Hills, Los Angeles is home to iconic landmarks and people.
These services are widely available, including offering rides from the major airports. You can read more about all your options on getting to the ship (including shuttles) and pricing on our Los Angeles cruise transportation page. It shouldn’t be a surprise, then, that the most convenient way to get to the cruise ship is to take an Uber/Lyft. These services provide access from all major airports in the area. And you can be picked up anywhere else in the area to get to the ship on your own schedule. While they would never be mistaken with the world’s most popular cruise ports like Miami and Fort Lauderdale, Los Angeles and Long Beach are still heavily trafficked cruise ports.
If you're planning on exploring this area, consider stopping by Wheel Fun Rentals in Shoreline Village, which rents every type of bike under the sun, including surreys. Less than a mile from Shoreline Village, The Pike Outlets (95 S. Pine Ave.) is a dining, shopping and entertainment center guaranteed to eat up some of your time. If you’re flying into LAX or Long Beach airport, click here for different transportation options. Parking at the pier is available in the five-story, 1,450-space parking garage. The cost is $15 per day and payment can be made with cash or major credit card. For all the details on parking, see our Long Beach cruise parking page here.

There are plenty of things to do in Long Beach at night, and much of it is within minutes of the cruise terminal. In 2018, Carnival completely renovated the Long Beach terminal, expanding to full use of the dome for an improved embarkation process.
Before or after your cruise from LA, tour Warner Brothers Studios and explore sets from your favorite TV shows. Walk along Venice Beach, where athletes, entertainers and creatives converge. Or ride the ferris wheel on the Santa Monica pier for a front-row seat to a California sunset. From Northern to Southern California, The Golden State is brimming with breathtaking coast lines, creative cuisine and iconic marine life. On cruises out of LA, visit the San Diego Zoo, California’s very own living sanctuary that thousands of animals call home.

Any hotel in the greater Long Beach area will only a few short minutes away from the Cruise Terminal. There are heaps of family-friendly breweries in Long Beach, especially along the Promenade, a six-block-long thoroughfare downtown (also perfect for bar crawling with or without tots/teens in tow). It’s always a good idea to plan to arrive into the city the day before.
